</b>This is the pic that they took of us on the way in. This was an exciting ride, it felt like being in a hurricane riding on choppy waters. We all squished in looking like "The Blue Man Group" with our bright blue ponchos!You can see one of the voyages with all the blue people an earlier post. You will get very close to the falls and very very wet! I actually put my poncho hood right over my face and looked through it when we were close because the water was spraying in my face and eyes so I couldn't see very well. I still think that every one should try this (once) to experience it but for me, I enjoy viewing them from the railings</div>

. I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did. The museum had 2 floors of wax figures of celebs posed so you can stand with them and have fun taking photos. The figures are the actual size of the people they represent. You will really be surprised by some of them! My husband Bruce made this so much more fun for me because he was so goofy posing and made laugh. These are just some of the photos I took. I hope some them made you smile. This museum is in the "family area" of attractions. I'm sorry but I can't remember what it is called but it's fun to walk around and shop. Here are some shots I took of the area:<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>I was very excited to cross the border and see the Horse Shoe Falls from our suite. My husband had set up the reservations and mentioned that we would like to stay in the highest floor available because it was our 33rd Anniversary. I never expected that we would have a top floor suite. In this photo, our suite was one with the tall arched windows. It was on the 50th floor!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>We had an astonishing view of both falls through a wall of floor to ceiling windows. There was a platform that you could stand on that made me feel like there wasn't even glass between us and the beautiful scene before us! Check out some of these photos :)</b></div>

If you ever plan a vacation here and stay at the Hilton, I suggest that you ask for the North Tower. There are 2 towers and the North tower is taller with a better view (in my opinion). Parking is valet and around $25 a day so we parked our car at the Falls View Casino, attached to the Hilton. if you are leaving your car and using public transportation like we did, it's great. They only charge 5$ when you leave. If you go in the casino and get one of their free rewards cards, you can swipe it when you leave the parking garage and not have to pay the 5$. This saved us a lot of cash as we stayed for a week. If you park on the 5th floor of the parking garage, you can walk straight across the bridge in my photo to re-enter your hotel. It's a short distance from there to the elevators. There is a Starbucks on that level. (mezzanine) We always grabbed a cup of coffee on our way back. They also have a Brazilian Steak House which was great. We bought a package that included a breakfast every day, one dinner at the steak house, 50$ in casino money, 4 drinks in one of the lounges.<br />
Here are some photos of our suite. We would definitely like to go back again and stay in the same room :) <br />

<b>There has been a very long pause in my "Road Trip" post and I apologize to anyone who may be following it.</b> <b>I just have the usual "busy with life excuses". I'm back so lets continue with the next stop right before the US/Canada border:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>We booked the next hotel ahead on the internet. The suite was very comfortable in an over-done Victorian/European Style. Please Note: This is the only room in this hotel, "The Econolodge,"that looks like this. I wouldn't recommend the other standard rooms. It is Roadside style hotel, very basic with no lobby, restaurant or other perks. It looks a little shady from the outside but our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable so we can't complain.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eLYaDzih6Vw/UyXqh-nNDBI/AAAAAAAABsI/QdHcL-N6uDc/s1600/IMG_0794.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eLYaDzih6Vw/UyXqh-nNDBI/AAAAAAAABsI/QdHcL-N6uDc/s1600/IMG_0794.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OMIUEFt1w78/UyXrBuCqVXI/AAAAAAAABsY/aqYjlNtPXSg/s1600/IMG_0791.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OMIUEFt1w78/UyXrBuCqVXI/AAAAAAAABsY/aqYjlNtPXSg/s1600/IMG_0791.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
Now I will tell you about our "little adventure" we had while staying here. We arrived in the afternoon and wanted to stay on the US side to experience the Falls on this side of the border and we heard there would be fireworks over the falls that night. We asked for directions to the park area. The hotel manager insisted that we would not want to drive there because of the crowds and parking situation. He suggested that we grab the bus in front of the hotel and it will take us right to the park and back by midnight.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>So ok, crossed "the highway" in front of the hotel and waited with a couple other guests. Great so far. The driver dropped us off at the downtown area bus top and said just keep walking and you can't miss it. It was quite a walk but very pretty. when we arrived in the park we saw the parking lot which was practically empty. I have R.A. so I was kind of upset that we didn't take the car. As we walked on, there were some information buildings and the crowds, but we found a place to stand to see the fireworks over the smaller falls, not the "Horseshoe Falls" which we will see in Canada. It was beautiful and lovely weather. When the crowds were dispersing, I looked at the time and realized we better start walking back to the bus stop because the last bus came by at 11pm. By this time I was tired and in some pain but we made it back in time for the so called bus to come. Luckily there was a bench to wait on.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>So we waited and waited and waited. Now it was after 11 and we were beginning to worry. I wished we had stopped a cab while we were there but now, no cabs no buses and our cell phone didn't work so close to being "out of the country". Finally, a city bus stopped at the light and we asked him about the tourist buses and he told us the buses stopped hours ago but he could give us a ride as close as he could get to our hotel. We didn't have much choice so depending on the kindness of strangers, we hopped on to a bus full of weary, some drunken, passengers going home for the night. Well, we left the bus and started walking down a dark road in a commercial area with not a restaurant or bar was open. we kept walking until we would find the next bench where I could sit for 5 minutes then walk some more. We ended up walking 6 miles on a direct route to the hotel! all I could think of was the Jacuzzi that I could have been enjoying.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>We finally made it, practicly crawling into the jacuzzi, ate some snacks that I had in my purse for the trip and collapsed. This crazy day is done. Onward to Canada :)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b>NOTE: this first photo belongs with the quilt at the bottom of this post but I couldn't get it to move Oops</b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><br></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We planned this trip months in advance to celebrate our 33rd Anniversary. It was actually my husband's (Bruce) idea. He loves waterfalls and has always wanted to visit Niagara Falls. After a lot of planning, and decisions made, we decided to leave a few days ahead of our Anniversary and stop at two different cities in upstate NY. on the way. It made the trip more interesting and not such a long drive. It takes about 10-12 hrs to get from our home in MA to the Canadian Border. We also booked some dinner reservations and a show at the casino connected to our hotel.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The first day, we only drove about 4 hrs. to stay in Albany NY. Unfortunately it was pouring when we arrived, but our suite was very nice and I had a jacuzzi to look forward to using later.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dtQ6JkbNzFM/UcXPdJ8uESI/AAAAAAAAA3k/T-a7wUcF1_s/s1600/IMG_0785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dtQ6JkbNzFM/UcXPdJ8uESI/AAAAAAAAA3k/T-a7wUcF1_s/s320/IMG_0785.JPG" width="320"></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express near downtown Albany.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j4nL5tfvZps/UcXRE_sWUkI/AAAAAAAAA30/f-dmff1xg7g/s1600/IMG_0787.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j4nL5tfvZps/UcXRE_sWUkI/AAAAAAAAA30/f-dmff1xg7g/s320/IMG_0787.JPG" width="320"></a></div>
We took a drive around, exploring what we could do during a rainy day. First stop, buy an umbrella. We ended up going to museums which took the afternoon to finish and a little shopping. The first was a small Navy museum with some artwork from local artists. It also had a section to learn about the history of the city. It was interesting and free. The one we really enjoyed was a huge, one, also free, just make a donation of any amount. There were beautiful displays and I learned a lot about this area of NY. There is also a large very touching display of the September 11th terrorist attacks. I wasn't expecting to see this. There was a film playing of one of the fireman who had rescued people in one of the towers. His story was so moving it brought tears to my eyes. I can't begin to imagine the horror he witnessed, the suffering he and his men went through. At one point he recollected stepping over a pile of bodies but it was so surreal that his brain saw something other than people and he moved on to help others. Thank God for people like him that put their lives in danger for the sake of others. Just wanted to share that with you. I know, doesn't sound like vacation stuff, but there it was, right in front of us. It was something I will never forget, just like the day it happened.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On a happier note there was an antique, running, carousal up on the top floor that was so pretty and we enjoyed watching all the kids having a great time. You could look out over the city on that floor. Here are some photos I took:<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Yes, that's us goofing around at the museum. what else is there to do on a rainy day but make the best of it. We found an English Pub downtown and for supper, had, of course, fish and chips and beer. It was a loud and rowdy place which made it fun. </div>

I will be back with another post, continuing our road trip. If you are interested, check back again, trust me, it will be more interesting after we get to Canada.</div>

I've debated buying this bag, "The Pink Satchel", since the first time I saw it. That was about 10 years ago on the knitting show, "Knitty Gritty" The guest that day, was young knitter and purse designer, Jordana Paige. I know this sounds like a commercial, but to a long time knitter who has had only "gramma knitting bags", this is exciting! So I finally gave myself permission to spend the money on myself after I did very well over Christmas with my EBay and Etsy sales. Just wanted to show it to any knitters who, like me, would rather have a cute purse that you can take out in public. My little dog decided to pose by it wearing his new sweater. The purse is Huge! I carry my tablet, my e-reader, and tons of knitting paraphernalia.<br />

I'm exhausted, haven't stopped cooking since yesterday. This year, I decided to make my own dinner rolls, which turned out pretty good. My husband taste tested 4, so I'm guessing they will do. It was actually kind of fun once I got into it, just very time consuming. I used a recipe that I had been saving for a while. I liked that with this recipe you can make them ahead and freeze them. My Kitchen-aid mixer was a big help as the recipe makes 4 dozen rolls. Each small ball of dough has to be rolled into a 10" log, and then tied in a knot with the 2 ends pinched together and hidden underneath. At first it was tricky, but then it became meditative. Anyway, you bake them at a low temp for a few min. then after they cool, put them in the freezer for another day. I think it was worth the effort, because I have plenty for our family's Thanksgiving dinner and anytime we want rolls with dinner, they can be popped into the oven frozen, and finished baking, so they will taste just as fresh as when I first made them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cN2k1r-mpio/UK1_z4L7YhI/AAAAAAAAAJs/6Zlaf6hKlLQ/s1600/DSC03598.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cN2k1r-mpio/UK1_z4L7YhI/AAAAAAAAAJs/6Zlaf6hKlLQ/s320/DSC03598.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
That was yesterday, today I started baking the goodies with my daughter. We made pumpkin bread, apple pie, pumpkin pie, corn muffins and cornsticks that I made in my antique cast iron pan. I'm looking forward to spending tomorrow, cooking and spending time with my family, maybe even having time to eat.lol If you are interested in the dinner roll recipe that I used, leave me a comment and I will add it to my blog. I hope that everyone is enjoying a holiday weekend with their families as well.<br />

I need a new way to organize my abundant supply of yarn. Yarn is so expensive, (for the good stuff), that when I find a bag of new yarn at a yard sale or Ebay, I have to buy it when it's available.<br />
So, needless to say I have enough to last the rest of my life. I have tried numerous ways to organize it. Here are a few:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Put similar yarn together in plastic bags<br />
Group the same colors in vintage suitcases<br />
Decorative Baskets I tried those vacumne seal bags that are "as seen on tv"<br />

This is the one that I was working on, on the way home from New Hampshire. I finally have my head model and one of the wigs. I think it makes a big difference compared with the Styrofoam ones that I have been using. I just started working on another one with the same yarn. I wasn't that happy with the looks of the yarn in the skein, but when it is knitted up, I love it. It's so soft. The yarn is Moda Dea<br />
"Cartwheel" in the color Coral, just in case anyone would like to make their own hat in this yarn. It's a bulky yarn that is "thick and thin", kind of rustic and warm.barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-85369229129175457212011-08-17T14:33:00.000-04:002011-08-17T14:33:44.867-04:00New Hats for my Etsy Shop<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lFj9JF1SJYc/TkwGMivFtpI/AAAAAAAAAGI/0pzLKTYXWNo/s1600/DSC03143.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lFj9JF1SJYc/TkwGMivFtpI/AAAAAAAAAGI/0pzLKTYXWNo/s320/DSC03143.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TWz-mxRR33Q/TkwGvfsOMGI/AAAAAAAAAGM/ynl9YcPUpgg/s1600/DSC03152.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TWz-mxRR33Q/TkwGvfsOMGI/AAAAAAAAAGM/ynl9YcPUpgg/s320/DSC03152.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bRphli9Xl38/TkwG_iAx82I/AAAAAAAAAGQ/Yci29yw5tGQ/s1600/DSC03166.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bRphli9Xl38/TkwG_iAx82I/AAAAAAAAAGQ/Yci29yw5tGQ/s320/DSC03166.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-goT33O2206k/TkwHUX-_gDI/AAAAAAAAAGU/SNBWuxoYaYo/s1600/DSC03174.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-goT33O2206k/TkwHUX-_gDI/AAAAAAAAAGU/SNBWuxoYaYo/s320/DSC03174.JPG" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6hzn8L13BLY/TkwHpq8GfaI/AAAAAAAAAGY/TCYX0xjnVRU/s1600/DSC03177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6hzn8L13BLY/TkwHpq8GfaI/AAAAAAAAAGY/TCYX0xjnVRU/s320/DSC03177.JPG" width="180" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S_hZCAIwvj4/TkwH3j85KSI/AAAAAAAAAGc/GpDxE3KT4ug/s1600/DSC03184.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S_hZCAIwvj4/TkwH3j85KSI/AAAAAAAAAGc/GpDxE3KT4ug/s320/DSC03184.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QeTKWIEhPjw/TkwISVdYGhI/AAAAAAAAAGg/YuVL7W1zyZA/s1600/DSC03204.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QeTKWIEhPjw/TkwISVdYGhI/AAAAAAAAAGg/YuVL7W1zyZA/s320/DSC03204.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

This is the first time for me completely designing hats from start to finish. It's a lot harder than it looks. I have scoured all my reference books for pattern ideas, looked at fashion magazines etc. and have come up with a few different designs for my hats. My college age son told me that he has seen lots of girls walking around the college area wearing "slouchy" hats so I decided to try my hand at it. So far I only have made one in each style, but I am planning on adding some different variations and colors. I'd love to know what you think of them. :)barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-82230655825039841122011-07-24T09:38:00.000-04:002011-07-24T09:38:05.942-04:00Free Pattern! cushion covers for you're favorite headphonesI have another free pattern for you today. Do you have a favorite pair of headphones that the cushions for your ears are falling apart? Seems like a waste to throw them away. I had some cotton candy pink yarn, leftover from my cupcake hat, (archived on this blog) It's very soft and "cushiony" a bulky weight yarn.I came up with this very easy, quick way to keep using my headset comfortably. Hope you'll try it. :)<br />
<br />
A small amount (just a few yards) of whatever bulky weight yarn that suits you<br />
size H crochet hook or whatever feels right with the yarn you have chosen<br />
chain 6, join with a slip-stitch to form a ring<br />
chain 3, 14 double crochets in the ring, join with a slip-stitch into the 3rd chain of the chain 3<br />
chain 3, 2 double crochets in each stitch all the way around, join with a slip stitch into the 3rd chain of the chain 3 of the previous row<br />
leaving about 18 " cut the yarn and thread it into a yarn needle ( a large eye blunt tipped needle)<br />
Now weave your yarn in and out, all around the stitches of the last row.<br />
place your cover onto the headphone cushion and if you have to, stretch to fit and cinch it closed<br />
now just tie a secure knot and weave in the yarn tail to hide it.<br />
note: if your headphone cushions are larger than mine, just add an extra row before ending.<br />

It was fun. This was an experiment to begin with, just to see how it would develop. Next time I will use some soft cotton yarn and make one I can really use. I decided not to add the second color, only because I couldn't find anything in my stash that would look right. Anyway, that's that. Have a great weekend!barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-67705637084681635472011-07-11T12:12:00.000-04:002011-07-11T12:12:28.134-04:00"Bite Me" Fingerless gloves<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wMmEV70M2TA/Thsf649HAhI/AAAAAAAAACo/XCeaDzx61FQ/s1600/DSC02596.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wMmEV70M2TA/Thsf649HAhI/AAAAAAAAACo/XCeaDzx61FQ/s320/DSC02596.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kPCzjLxwf7w/ThsgazXv-aI/AAAAAAAAACs/sYTJffzHwYI/s1600/DSC02335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kPCzjLxwf7w/ThsgazXv-aI/AAAAAAAAACs/sYTJffzHwYI/s320/DSC02335.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Here are the pics of the Twilight gloves that I mentioned earlier. I finally uploaded my pics. I bought the pattern on ravelry.com from someone called "lovebug mama's designs" in case you are interested in making a pair. (a little shout- out to a fellow designer) They were pretty easy to make. The gloves are knitted first, then the design is duplicate stitched on later. I think they're pretty cute :)<br />

For some reason, I wasn't able to change it. Oh well I guess You'll have to put on your shades before reading hee hee.<br />
<br />
<br />
Lately, I have been interested in "hyperbolic crochet" I checked out a link featuring a display of a crocheted coral reef. I don't have the link but if you want to see it, just google Hyperbolic crochet or crochet coral reef and you will find it. It's amazing!! I can't believe how much these free-form crochet pieces really resemble a coral reef. Right now, I am crocheting my own model of a coral using the "hyperbolic crochet" method. Hyperbolic is a mathematical term, so I am told by my engineer son. It describes an un-even plane that when crocheted, grows larger using the same sequence over and over, and turns into a coral like object that, made in cotton yarn, makes a great bath puff.<br />
What I am trying, is making a chain of 2, then six single crochets into the second chain from the hook. Now just continue around and around putting 2 single crochets in each stitch until your coral (bath puff) is as large as you want. To make it more interesting change colors on the last row and single crochet once into every stitch around. I'll post pics of mine very soon.:)barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-86259143200438331762011-07-02T17:06:00.001-04:002011-09-07T12:21:20.307-04:00Pink Baby Blanket Update<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V-NyjTZmP3I/Tg-KBbVL3bI/AAAAAAAAACA/gLeU8q3QDl4/s1600/DSC02964.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V-NyjTZmP3I/Tg-KBbVL3bI/AAAAAAAAACA/gLeU8q3QDl4/s320/DSC02964.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

I finished the edging, making up my own shell st. border. I framed it with 2 rows of single crochet then one row of rather large shell stitches. I think it came out pretty cute. :) Luckily, the baby show<span style="background-color: white;"></span>er isn't for 3 weeks because I've been pretty sick for a while. A bad sore throat ,coughing, miserable,<span style="background-color: black;"></span> so I have to make sure I'm not contagious before I meet the new baby. Hope you are all well and having a fun July 4th weekend Barbie </span></span>barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-40662041446612197752011-06-15T11:02:00.000-04:002011-06-15T11:02:25.079-04:00Loom Knitted Baby BlanketI just found out that I have a new little family member. I haven't met her yet, but I've seen pictures. my niece and her husband are in the process of adopting a baby girl. I want to make make her something special. I found some soft pink yarn from Lion Brand. It looks like Homespun but I forget the actual name since I through out the ball bands. I starting loom knitting it on my knifty knitter, longest loom. I used every peg, all the way around then turned and knit back. I ended up with a rectangle about 2 ft. by 3 ft. It didn't seem large enough to me, or finished enough, so now I'm am crocheting a border all the way around. So far I have added 2 rows of single Crochet stitches. I'm thinking about adding a shell st. border or some sort of open work st, but I haven't decided yet. If anyone has any ideas on how to finish this blanket, I would love to hear them, just leave a quick message. I will upload pictures when I finally finish it.barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-22017512987548669932011-03-09T15:46:00.000-05:002011-03-09T15:46:58.160-05:00Some finished Projects<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c2mhO2ws2U0/TXfhAaWK3mI/AAAAAAAAABk/TkpCz_V3144/s1600/DSC02452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c2mhO2ws2U0/TXfhAaWK3mI/AAAAAAAAABk/TkpCz_V3144/s320/DSC02452.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Nkg95oCXrJc/TXfhQdRvbBI/AAAAAAAAABo/viZLrkWMVn0/s1600/DSC02453.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Nkg95oCXrJc/TXfhQdRvbBI/AAAAAAAAABo/viZLrkWMVn0/s320/DSC02453.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-fvvlr7XRRMc/TXfhhL7ugPI/AAAAAAAAABs/odHq14B9y9w/s1600/DSC02454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-fvvlr7XRRMc/TXfhhL7ugPI/AAAAAAAAABs/odHq14B9y9w/s320/DSC02454.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>I just noticed that in my last post, I commented that I found the "Eclipse Socks" pattern on etsy, but I must have been tired when I wrote that. I actually found the pattern on ravelry.com, you must have an account to access the patterns. Here is the pictures I promised. I used a #1 circular needle. 32" long. I used the magic loop method. It was a lot of fun and I couldn't believe how fast they worked up.<br />

I finished the knitting quite a while ago, but I couldn't find the right buttons to go with it. I ended up finding just the right ones on ebay. It's very hard to find 23 of the same buttons and have them match the garment. Anyway, this corset top is from designer, Annie Modesitt, one of my favs. I saw her demo it on the TV show, Knitty Gritty and I was able to download the pattern free at the time on diynet.com I'm not sure if you can still get it for free. I've had it printed out for a couple years and finally made it. The cream colored trim is made of Lion Brand Suede. I think it was perfect. the buttons are called coffee cream, and that's just what they look like. The sage yarn is acrylic, not by choice, but wool is so expensive for a whole sweater. Now, I'm knitting some "Twilight mitts" from a pattern that I purchased on ravelry.com. I'll take take some pics soon.barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-17547369212490754532011-02-08T20:21:00.000-05:002011-02-08T20:21:56.127-05:00Knitting Through The Snow Storms!I've been doing a lot of knitting lately. It seems like it snows at least once a day around here. I don't have any problem finding things to do during the storms. all I need is some yarn and a couple needles, then I have a good excuse to put my feet up and try out some new patterns or ideas that I have. One of the latest idea I had is a "cupcake hat" I had some chocolate brown wool and some candy pink novelty yarn that always looked like pink frosting to me. I've had it for a while and never knew what to do with just one ball of it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z57J8vbUhp0/TVHrw3weqII/AAAAAAAAABc/nTJtjyZDaV8/s1600/DSC02431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z57J8vbUhp0/TVHrw3weqII/AAAAAAAAABc/nTJtjyZDaV8/s320/DSC02431.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z57J8vbUhp0/TVHr-qVzXgI/AAAAAAAAABg/nJTHdOztj84/s1600/DSC02439.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z57J8vbUhp0/TVHr-qVzXgI/AAAAAAAAABg/nJTHdOztj84/s320/DSC02439.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Then I got the idea of making a chocolate cupcake with pink frosting for a hat with a pink "cherry" on top. the cherry is a tiny crocheted ball with polyester fiberfill stuffed inside. I think it came out cute. I'm thinking about selling it in my etsy shop.barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-8874885233378925802011-01-19T20:04:00.000-05:002011-01-19T20:04:32.237-05:00FREE Pattern! They are so pretty I can't resist picking up another one when I find one on sale or at a garage sale. I now have a small trunk full of them. All sizes, shapes, and those cheery colors, so I figured that I should try something beside the baby hat pattern that was included with one set. Anyway, I was thinking of making a poncho, having no idea what size I was making, I found that there was no way it was going to fit. I didn't want to pull out my work, hence, the cowl neck warmer. I have been seeing these cowls everywhere I look lately, even the fashion mags, so why not try it with the loom. Well here it is, I really like it and wear it all the time. In this neutral color, it goes with just about anything in my closet. It's just enough to keep out the cold air and very comfy. The picture that I'm am modeling happened to have a stray hair land on it which I didn't realize when I loaded it so please excuse.<br />
Here is the Super Easy Pattern, Try it, It's a lot of fun, useful too:<br />
A small amount of one skein of Red Heart "Super Saver" yarn. Very inexpensive.(I used this beige color, but you can use any color that pleases you). Experiment with other worsted weight yarns or even sport weight.<br />
You will need the extra large round Knifty Knitter. (The yellow one)<br />
Normally, you would use a heavier yarn on these looms, but I wanted a very light airy feel so I used one strand of the Red Heart yarn that I chose. Now cast on as your instruction sheet that came with your loom explains by e-wrapping the pegs. If you don't have the instructions, just type in Knifty Knitter at youtube.com and you will find tons of info. You will have 2 cast on rows before starting to knit.<br />
Just knit in the normal way by lifting the bottom loop over the top loop as you knit around the loom until you have 50 rows or whatever you desire. I wanted 50 rows because the edges normally curl up as shown and you will need extra length to get a nice loose cowl effect. When you have 50 rows, you will cast off your knitting using a crochet hook or your knifty Knitter tool that came with it. Weave in your ends and it's ready to wear. Again, if you need help with any process, casting on, casting off, e-wrapping, loom knitting, there are so many great videos to help you. That's how I learned it. Good Luck! Hope you have fun, there is no right or wrong. If you like the way it comes out, that's all that matters :) Barbie<br />
One more tip: Very important to keep your yarn very, very, loose throughout the project.barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-54089999725391189212011-01-12T19:10:00.000-05:002011-01-12T19:10:59.825-05:00Winter Wonderland! Great time to read! Sometimes I forget how nice it is to actually read a book. I have been reading "The Vampire Chronicles" by Anne Rice, btw, I would love to hear from others who may be reading or have read this series. We're having a Blizzard here in New England. I heard that 24,000 people in my County are without power still. Since my hubby works for the power Co., I can tell you that they are out working on that.<br />

Not like how I usually read, a few minutes before bed or while waiting for water to boil. Aaah, what should I read next?barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-71573297122582286502011-01-09T19:16:00.001-05:002011-01-17T19:07:06.694-05:00FREE Crochet Pattern Today!<div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z57J8vbUhp0/TTTZP9ScmuI/AAAAAAAAABA/CNSSFOTp-pQ/s1600/DSC02332.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z57J8vbUhp0/TTTZP9ScmuI/AAAAAAAAABA/CNSSFOTp-pQ/s320/DSC02332.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

I use it to hold a "sock project" or other small project. It's beginner level and you can use any worsted weight yarn that you may have in your stash. (I would stay away from novelty types of yarn if you are a beginner), it's hard to see and count your stitches.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">This is my original pattern, but feel free to use it as you may. You will need a size H crochet hook or one that is right for your yarn. There is usually a suggestion on the yarn wrapper "ball band".</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<span style="font-weight: bold;"> 13. ch. 3, dc. in each st.. Join to ch. 3</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;"> 14. ch. 2, sc. in each st. Join to ch. 2. fasten off.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">To make the drawstrings:</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Make 2 strings. Ch. 100 for each string. fasten off.</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Start threading each string separately through the eyelet holes. Make sure they stay separate while you tie each one to itself with a small knot completing 2 separate circles.</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">To close the bag: Grab a loop from each side of the bag and pull. (I hope this makes sense. It's really easy, just difficult to explain in writing)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Hope you like it, I sometimes wear it on my wrist. I can knit while I'm walking. Can you tell I'm obsessed? LOL </span><span style="font-weight: bold;"> </span>barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5043185586445571571.post-3991049762215384712011-01-04T22:20:00.000-05:002011-01-04T22:20:12.225-05:00KUDOS to all of the hard-working nurses out there!!!!!<div style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: purple;">Unfortunately, I've spent the better part of 2 days at our local hospital with my husband's mom. She's 82 and has been very sick. While waiting forever for her to be admitted, my husband and I observed some of the most dedicated nursing staff. They were literally running from room to room, having to deal with so many different ailments and still managed to keep a warm smile on their faces, comforting their sick, frightened patients.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: purple;"> On the drive home, we contemplating all the people who complain about their jobs, while these nurses and other staff are never given the credit they deserve. So to all of the nurses out there, I dedicate this post to you!</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: purple;"> THANK YOU!</span></div>barbiejknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13739341649055088071noreply@blogger.com0
